Tell us about your student group.
EduWonks was founded in 2011 to promote interest in education policy among McCourt students. The members of EduWonks seek to advocate creative thinking, action, entrepreneurship, and dialogue within and beyond the Georgetown community to understand why education is one of the defining civil rights issues of our time. Each member of the organization is passionate about addressing the challenges of educational inequity in the United States and abroad.
What are some things your group is planning for this year?
This year, EduWonks is excited to host a number of events with major speakers from the education space. In previous years we have hosted Deputy Mayor for Education Jennifer Niles, State Superintendent of Education Hanseul Kang, and education advocate Senator Elizabeth Warren. We continue to work to diversify events according to the interests of our members, including offering more discussions on international education and bringing employers to campus who impact education policy through the private and non-profit sectors. Further, we are excited to host our popular, monthly dinner series with professors from McCourt discussing how their research intersects education.
